Finding our “Why”

Everyone who gets into homesteading has a few big reasons why. They generally fall under the same umbrella but it looks a little different for each family and individual. Our five main motivations are sustainability, healthy and joyful living, financial independence, education, and building community.

  • Through regenerative farming techniques and an effort to work with nature rather than against her, we hope to provide for our family for years to come. We utilize pasture rotation and multi-species grazing to maintain pasture health. Our chickens are all free-range, giving them a natural varied diet in addition to their feed ration. Our pigs eat all of our uneaten produce that would otherwise go to waste.

  • There’s nothing like knowing where your food comes from and learning how to bring health and wealth to your life through nature. We raise our animals holistically with love.

  • Our desire to operate outside of the rat race of life fuels our choices on the farm and in our daily lives. The idea of disappearing into the woods with my family and animals is a thought I come back to frequently. Reality comes barging in every time a bill arrives in the mail (or in my email inbox). It is our hope that someday our farm can sustain itself. Through diversifying our product offerings we hope to reach many people who want to support local farmers and businesses. Conveniently, you can shop our online store and select either shipping or local pickup at checkout. We also breed and sell Nigerian Dwarf goats and barnyard mix chicks. Check the available goats page for information on goats for sale and follow us on social media for timely updates.

  • Teaching our children to be self-sufficient free thinkers, and arming them with the skills to guide them on whatever life path they choose - this is probably my biggest reason for choosing the path I’ve embarked on. In addition to teaching my own children, I want to show others that there’s another way of life waiting for you to discover if you’re interested. And if it isn’t for you, you can still support those of us who are on this path. It’s easier than ever to like and share content on social media, leave a good review for a small business, and shop in your local community and beyond.

  • Building community is essential in this life, as not a one of us can do it all alone. We have been making connections with likeminded people in our community and beyond - the internet is good for that if you know where to look.
